Ikebana is the Japanese art flower arranging. The kenzan, or “frog” is the insert which holds the flowers. The kenzans that I use are made from solid brass with different finishes.
Each ikebana is turned from a piece of manzanita root giving
each piece its own unique personality.
Bark inclusions and the occasional rock only enhance the beauty of the vase.
There are 52 species of manzanita native to North America. They range from Alaska down through California and well into Mexico. In California, manzanita is known as “chaparral” and is regularly bulldozed or burned out from under trees to help control forest fires. Its roots are tough and capable of growing around rocks in the poor soil where it thrives.

I have found that rotating each piece can change its appearance dramatically.
