KASSAN’S CREATIONS
COMPLIMENTING NATURES’ BEAUTY

My Creations
This page is for the ideas I have had to get out of my head and into the real world.
There are lots of other ideas still on paper that will eventually become a reality.
All in good time I suppose.

Returning from  a trip to Florida visiting my parents, my wife and I stopped at a wood dealer near Waldo.  Arriving just before closing, we took a quick look around his 3 acre facility.  Realizing we would need more time, we stayed overnight.  That evening, while suffering from sensory overload due to all we had seen, the concept for this table took form.  In the morning the first thing on our agenda was to find the perfect cypress slab for the table. We then sorted through piles of cypress knees finding the two that would complete the look I was going for.  We inspected the rest of the facility, one section at a time, selecting piece after piece, leaving with a truckload of inspiration.

Thanks to a grant from the United Arts Council, it was possible for me to take a trip to California to visit one of my wood suppliers.  This would enable me to hand pick wood for more specialized projects.  Once there we discovered that he also sold Buckeye Burl slabs and stumps.  My wife and I selected several slabs and then picked through pallets of stumps to find the best shapes and sizes for our slabs.  We ended up shipping about 2000 pounds of wood back to NC.
This table is one of the products of that trip.  The base was dyed black giving a more refined look to the table.  The spikes were added for stability but also to create the illusion they were already in the tree.

This dresser really shows how much I like to play with angles.  It is assembled with finger joints, and is made of ebonized oak and curly cherry.
The pulls are nickel silver with corian tops.  All the drawers have full extension slides and are angled as well so as not to waste any space.
I built this back in Sept. of ’96 and now have a sketch of a matching low-boy that can sit next to it.
                                                                             “Solstice”
The top to this table is a copper laminate and the legs are made of corian.  The inlay on the legs matches the corian banding along the bottom of the table.
I always joked that you could have 30” of water in your house and this table would not get damaged.
“Twisted Bed”
No this is not a weird camera angle, the bed really looks like this.  This was a wild idea I had and decided to go ahead and build it.  The bed itself is made from salvaged oak timbers that are 2 1/4” thick and 5” wide.  The side rails are shaped on the outside to help the twisting illusion.  The accent boards which are curly cherry were also cut so their sides are not parallel giving the impression of even more twist.   The unforeseen problem with this bed is, I get the side that hits you in the ribs and my wife gets the side that stubs your toe.
(It took a bit of getting used to)
